Summary
With the impending release of the 8:3 system in 2020, this future-facing project dealt with the following 16:9 system to be released in 2022. A collection of research sessions and stakeholder reviews were conducted to validate the purchase of the large displays and determine any changes and updates to be made to the infotainment interaction model for PIVI (8:3) and PIVI-Pro (16:9).
Objective
The objective of the research was to validate the repurchase of 16:9 11.4 inch touchscreens planned for the Jaguar XF 2022 Sportbrake. Including the validation of the expansion of the 8:3 interaction model into a 16:9 format. Some of the important questions included: Should there be more buttons on the screen since the screen is larger? How does this compare to the Tesla infotainment and other similarly sized infotainment displays? How much difference should there be, if any, between the 8:3 and the 16:9 system?
Approach
A mini and portable infotainment kit was put together, and an interactive prototype of various key tasks and flows was designed as stimuli for 3 summative testing sessions along the west coast of the U.S. and a stakeholder review in the U.K. In addition, a comparative A/B test was designed pitting the 8:3 system against the 16:9 system.
Role-Specifics
Define the project's vision and impact within the organization—this involved collaboration with the Director of Marketing, Human Factors, and Engineering.
Guide senior designers in creating 16:9 layouts and flows, ensuring the interaction model between the previous system is maintained; and if differentiated - describe how and why. This involved updating feature owners across the organization on how the migration to the larger display might impact their specific applications.
Guide senior designers and researchers across global teams (Europe, the US, and Asia) to design a validation research protocol.
Document and disseminate the bill of materials and specifications to build the portable infotainment kit, ensuring consistency across all global research sessions.
Create and manage all tickets in JIRA in collaboration with a Scrum Master/ Project Manager.
Conduct all sessions with UK stakeholders.
Lead all data analysis and synthesis sessions. Author and disseminate the reports to Directors and stakeholders.
Lead updates on Interaction Model and UX requirements with the UK Design Team.
